What we can offer instead is specificity: real prices (not marketing-page teasers), what each tool actually delivers versus what it just tells you about, and an honest note on where a free tool is genuinely the better choice, including when that's not us.
The core distinction that matters
Most tools in this space fall into one of two buckets, and the label "ATS checker" gets used for both. A scorer tells you how well your résumé matches a job description — a number, a keyword gap list, maybe some suggestions you apply yourself. A rewriter goes further and produces a finished, tailored document. Confusing the two is the most common reason someone feels let down by a tool that did exactly what it said it would.
Free keyword scorers
atspass.com is a lean, no-signup keyword checker — paste a résumé and JD, see matched and missing keywords, get rewrite suggestions you apply yourself. It doesn't produce a full rewritten résumé. Free tier is 3 scans/day; paid is $1.50/scan or $12/month for 60 credits. If all you want is a fast keyword gap check with no commitment, this is a reasonable pick, and honestly overlaps with what our own free Keyword Gap Check does.
Skillsyncer offers unlimited basic keyword scans for free, without a rewrite. Worth trying if you want to run the same résumé against many postings without hitting a cap.
Established paid tools
Jobscan is the name most people already know in this space, with the deepest matching algorithm reputation and job-board integrations. It's also the most expensive at $49.95/month, subscription-only, with no pay-per-use option — a real barrier if you only need to check one or two applications.
Enhancv is primarily a resume builder— 150+ templates, drag-and-drop, genuinely good design output — with an ATS check bolted on. That check is 27 qualitative checks across categories like file type and section presence; it does not produce a numerical, job-specific match score the way a dedicated scorer does. Multiple independent reviews note this gap directly. Pricing starts at $16.50/month (semi-annual), no free download tier, PDF export only — a real drawback if you're applying through Workday or iCIMS, which parse .docx more reliably.
Get Hired Central bundles 12+ career tools — resume builder, job board aggregator, interview prep, salary coaching — with an ATS scanner as one feature among many. $29/month month-to-month, $19/month billed annually. Their own methodology isn't disclosed publicly. A reasonable pick if you want one subscription covering the whole job search, less so if the ATS score is the main thing you're after.
Builders with an ATS angle
RabbitResume is a template-based builder, not an analyze-your-existing-résumé tool. Worth flagging specifically: their marketed "ATS-HACK" feature claims to insert keywords invisible to a human reader but readable by an ATS. This is the hidden-text trick that shows up on most lists of things notto do for ATS optimization — real parsers and many recruiters can flag it, and it's one of the most commonly debunked "hacks" in legitimate resume advice. Pricing is subscription-only, $29.90 for 30 days, no free analysis tier.
KerjaPlus targets the Malaysia/SEA market with nine separate tools — critic, builder, career matching, ATS check, interview coach, and a human-expert "Resume Studio" upsell. Pricing isn't published clearly. If you're job hunting in Malaysia specifically and want a local brand, it's worth a look; the tools are disconnected rather than one workflow.
Application autopilots (a different category)
Xapply isn't really an ATS checker — it's an application autopilot that finds roles, tailors materials per posting, and can submit applications on your behalf with a review gate. Its own ATS scoring is described as a single basic score, not a breakdown. Worth knowing this category exists, and worth knowing some job boards' terms of service restrict automated applying — that risk sits with tools in this category, not with a scorer or rewriter you review and submit yourself.
